Reading
On the "Assignments" page you will find extensive notes about accessing the reading for this course.
Technology Overview
I have requested stickers for your student IDs so that you may use any of the Phelps Instructional Computing labs. Stickers are available from the U-mail help desk in Phelps 1523. Phelps 1529 is an open-access lab and a sticker is not necessary for admission.
Instructional Computing offers a series of free software tutorials. This fall, the Dreamweaver sessions are October 2, October 4, November 5, and November 6. There are also HTML sessions on October 29 and October 30. The Flash sessions are November 19 and November 20. Photoshop sessions will be held December 3 and December 4. The workshop schedule is online.
The Transcriptions computing studio will also be available for you to use; Melissa Stevenson is the Transcriptions TA this quarter and will hold lab hours TWR 11-3. Changes to these hours will be posted on the whiteboard outside the Transcriptions studio. During these hours the lab will be open to all members of the class for web authoring and reading. The computing studio has a scanner, PC computers, and all of the production tools you will need to compose your project, including Photoshop, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, and a new sound editor from Sound Forge. There are HTML reference manuals and most of the texts in the Eastgate Library are also on hand for you read. The Transcriptions web archive also contains a great deal of information about web authoring.
Your final assignment for this course will be to author a web project. To host this project, you will likely need a U-Web account, unless you have web space through your own ISP, e.g. earthlink.
