Wiki Glossary

Each student will contribute a certain number of entries to a class Wiki.
Terms will be assigned in class.
Due dates are ongoing throughout the semester. See the class schedule.
Wiki Group Presentations

Groups will compose a wiki entry for a text or genre to be presented to the class.
Entry should include author info, context, brief plot summary (if applicable), key issues, links to relevant literary terms, and links to at least two outside sources.
Paper One - Close Reading

20% of final grade Due:
Friday, February 3rd 5:30pm
4 - 6 pages, double spaced, Times Font, 1 inch margins.
A close reading of any of the texts we have covered in class thus far: Writing Machines, Marvel 1602, or a selection of poems.
A detailed assignment sheet, including suggested topics, will be distributed in class.
A full-length draft of the paper should be posted to the class forum for peer review by 5:30 pm on Monday, January 30th.
A guide to peer review and a paper workshop checklist will be distributed in class.
Paper Two - Research Paper

20% of final grade Due:
Friday, March 3 5:30 p.m.
4 - 6 pages, double spaced, Times Font, 1 inch margins.
A close reading, supplemented by outside research, of any of the texts covered since the last paper: Frankenstein, Patchwork Girl, l0ve 0ne, or 253.
A detailed assignment sheet, including suggested topics, will be distributed in class.
A full-length draft of the paper should be posted to the class forum for peer review by 5:30 pm on Monday, February 27th. Responses to drafts are due by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1st..

Web Project
Weight:
20% of final grade Due:
Thursday, March 23rd 11:59 p.m.
Each student will construct a web supplement to accompany either paper one or paper two or as a supplement to any other text in the class.
500 words plus links and multimedia components.
Must enhance the user’s understanding of the text in question.
Instruction in web design will be provide through the Transcriptions Studio.
A detailed assignment sheet will be distributed in class, including guidelines for writing on the web.
Participation, including attendance and quizzes.

10% of final grade
To receive full participation points, you must visit me at least once during office hours after the first draft of your first paper. We will discuss any assignments you are currently working on as well as your general progress in the class.
